Yalies Win at 2018 DataFest at Wesleyan

April 16, 2018

On April 6-8, 14 Yale undergraduate students competed in the annual DataFest at Wesleyan sponsored by the American Statistical Association. Our students, organized into 3 teams, faced off against student teams from Connecticut College, Bentley University, Trinity College, the University of Connecticut, and Wesleyan University. The dataset was revealed on the evening of Friday, April 6. Students worked through Sunday morning to identify insights in the data and produce a compelling presentation. Each team had 5 minutes to present their findings on Sunday afternoon in front of a panel of distinguished judges from industry and academia. Of the three Yale teams who participated, Team AsuperNOVA (Dawn Chen, James Diao, Sarah Wagner, Gloria Wu, and Cathy Xue) took home the prize for Best Business Insight. The other two prizes that were awarded, Best User Insight and Best Data Integration, went to Wesleyan and UConn teams, respectively.
