The Department of Statistics was officially founded on July 1, 1963. Prior to the founding of the Department of Statistics, the teaching of that subject at Yale was the concern of a “Committee on Statis-tics”, which consisted of representatives from many different departments within the University for which instruction in this discipline was important.
